HEALTHY HABITAT FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM
Hands on Wildlife is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with NQ Dry Tropics. Hands on Wildlife is helping to develop educational and fun classroom visits which support the new Healthy Habitat for Schools Program.
School grounds are under foot all the time so they need to be resilient and look good. Native landscaping is not an area that schools may have expertise or resources, but the need is there. That is why NQ Dry Tropics is launching the Healthy Habitat for Schools Program in 2011.
Information packs and profressional development opportunities will be available for every school within the dry tropics to better manage their grounds. Schools will increase their knowledge and skills, get a plan to care for their land and understand plant biodiversity so they can include more resilient plants to climate and other factors.
Participating Schools will also receive a visit from the amazing animals from Hands on Wildlife. The educational, animal interaction program will emphasize why healthy habitats are important for animals and people, what threats animals and habitats are facing and how we can all live sustainably to help ensure that tehre is "enough for all forever." And off course every student will get the chance to touch and hold the friendly animals from Hands on Wildlife.
NQ Dry Tropics and Hands on Wildlife have developed curriculum-based worksheets to complement the Heatlhy Habitat for Schools program classroom activities. These engaging worksheets introduce students to the world of biodiversity in the dry tropics region.
There are specific worksheets for primary and high school year levels and a school biodiversity audit that can be adapted for any year level.
These worksheets are also suitable for schools that are not part of the program, in helping children to learn more about biodiversity, native Australian animal habitats, and sustainability.
